This is a team of 4 challenge lasting 6 weeks where the rules are simple, the goal is up to you, it will only cost pennies (literally) and EVERYONE wins…by losing fat or gaining muscle. Each member on the team that ultimately wins the challenge will get 50% off their november invoice AND get 1 month of free Core membership to gift a friend wanting to try out CrossFit.
Each athlete will fill out the form below to register for the challenge. Be sure to read all the details before. Your wagered weight loss or gain goal is important and may just be the game changer so consider it wisely.
Challenge begins Monday, September 7th and ends Sunday, October 18th. Registration is due Tuesday, September 1.
How to earn points for your team
Daily Points:
1 Point- Eat 4 cups of veggies and fruit a day. This looks like a salad for lunch and sweet potato and broccoli at dinner, or a banana at breakfast, an apple with lunch and vegetable stew for dinner. There are no rules in regards to what kind of veggies and fruit you can eat. Feel free to eat all the dates, white potatoes and corn you want. Just keep in mind that those starches are not going to contribute to your weight change. Juice, potato chips (sweet or white), corn chips, veggie straws, dried fruit and fruit juice popsicles do not count toward your 4 cups. Other exceptions may apply…if you aren’t sure just ask!
1 Point- Eat a minimum of .7 X body weight of grams of protein. For example: 130 pounds of body weight x .7 = 91 grams of protein a day. This amounts to about 2 chicken breasts or 16 oz of ground beef or 3.5 cups of egg whites. You can use MyFitnessPal to figure out your protein grams for each meal. Any protein source is allowed (even soy Thomas.)
1 Point- Finish the daily programed WOD on weekdays or run 1 mile or do 7 minutes of burpees (with a minimum of 55 burpees) on the weekend. If you are unable to come into the gym you can still complete the One Day WOD at home to earn your point.
1 Point- Spend 10 minutes on accessory work. This could be stretching, Crossover Symmetry, lat pull-downs, practicing double-unders, running interval sprints, breathing exercises etc…basically anything that is going to help you get better with your fitness.
1 Point- Get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep. You do not have to measure your sleep with a fitness/sleep tracker. As long as you are in bed without electronics on with the intent of trying to sleep you can count it toward your 7 hours.
Variable Points:
WOD Reps- Once a week a particular WOD’s reps will count toward your points. If you get 300 reps in the WOD you earn 300 points! These WODs will be held on Tuesdays during the challenge.
Weight Change Points- For every ounce, lost or gained by the end of the 6 weeks, you will earn 1 point. You can double your points for each ounce you wagered on as long as you meet your wagered goal. Therefore consider your goal weight change carefully. If you don’t wager enough you are losing the potential to double your points. If you wager too much you don’t get to double points at all.
How Points are scored
Each team will have an empty jar designated with their team name up at The Core. When you earn points throughout the week you will add 1 cent for every point earned into your team’s jar. If you get all of your daily points earning a total of 5 points you can deposit 5 pennies or 1 nickel into your team’s jar. You cannot hold onto your “points” until the end of the challenge. You must deposit your “points” for the week by each following Monday at 7pm. Dollar bills are not allowed. You can keep all the other teams guessing at your team’s score by varying your copper and silver coins. When the 6 weeks are up you will do a final weight measurement and can add your additional weight change points in the form of dollars and coins to be included in the final score.
I know what you are thinking…”earning points is going to cost me money.” Yeah…but keep in mind these two things…
1.) There is no upfront cost for this challenge. I’ve calculated what I imagine would be the max amount someone could possible “spend” over the 6 weeks and it is around $50. I think some motivation, good habits, mindset reset and weight change are all worth that.
2.) All money collected is going to be donated to the Daniel family. Kam Daniel worked out with us for a short time but has had to take a break for now because her youngest son, Trevor, has been readmitted to the hospital to undergo a pretty tough month of chemo treatments. So while these will feel like just pennies at first I really hope they all add up to a huge blessing for this sweet family who has endured so beautifully and faithfully.
How Teams Are Made
I will create teams of 4 based on your weight change wager. I will do my best to keep the teams as equal and fair as possible. I will create Facebook message groups for each team. The only communication that will be required will be to initially come up with a team name. After that all communication is up to you. You can use the group to strategize, encourage, ask questions, or post pics of all the food! If you do not have Facebook but still want to participate your phone number will be provided to your team and a text group can be created by your team.
