What we do:

Our Crossfit classes last for one hour. This hour includes a targeted warmup, time for specific instruction about the workout, the workout itself and a cool down stretch. Now we know that sounds like a lot to fit into an hour but all of this is critical for you to get the most out of your time. We want to make sure your body is warm and prepared. Our coaches will spend the time needed to make sure that everyone in the class is comfortable with performing the movements of the workout and will scale for every athlete’s individual ability. Our coaches will monitor the class during the workout to make sure everyone is performing the movements correctly and safely and will be there for encouragement and motivation. On most days, after the workout is over we have time to perform a cool down stretch.

How we do it:

CrossFit targets what it calls the major components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory fitness, stamina, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. Our workouts typically combine explosive exercises done in a circuit format: One exercise follows right after the next, with very little rest in between. We use a mix of equipment: including barbells, dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, jump ropes, kettlebells, medicine balls, plyo boxes, resistance bands, rowing machines, and various mats. And the workout is different every day. Here is an example of one of our workouts:

Why WE do it:

Crossfit is about being ready for any and everything in life. We are not training to be the fastest. We are not training to be the strongest. We want to be the best we can be across all the physical aspects of life. We want to be prepared to carry our two year old all afternoon. We want to be prepared to move our kids into their dorm room for college. We want to get every sack of groceries from the car to the kitchen in one trip. Whatever it is, we want to be prepared. CrossFit’s focus on functional movements gets us there. And the great thing about it is that every movement we use in class is directly related to movements we do in everyday life!
